Position Title: Career Pathways Instructional Lead

FTE: 0.6 FTE

Commitment Duration: Minimum of 3 years

Leadership Team: Coaching & Curricular Team

Reports to: Program Manager

 

Hours/Location: Position requires a balance of daytime and evening hours at both North and South Campus to equitably support all instructional staff. Schedule will remain flexible and can be negotiated with the supervisor. Meet with & train Career Pathways staff in August during Back-to-School and as new pathway courses or teachers are added.

 

Summary: To develop, coordinate and improve Career Pathways programming in MPS Adult Education. To create and maintain IET curriculum, learner enrollment process, progress tracking procedure and support partnerships with post-secondary institutions and employers.

 

Goal: To lead the instructional effort to establish MPS Adult Education as a leader in Career Pathways programming and partnerships

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership within Career Pathways Team

    1. Strategy 1.1: Answer questions that teachers have about finding resources and materials 

    2. Strategy 1.2: Explain, train and provide new teachers with curriculum

    3. Strategy 1.3: Communicate and collaborate with teachers through monthly team and/or individual meetings 

    4. Strategy 1.4: Attend evening/daytime staff meetings to be available to teachers as needed

    5. Strategy 1.5: Provide guidance with any curricular issues related to the courses assigned 

  2. Curriculum and Materials

    1. Strategy 2.1: Review and revise course descriptions and benchmarks

    2. Strategy 2.2: Create and maintain pacing guides for all sites and programming

    3. Strategy 2.3: Develop curriculum and assessment materials

    4. Strategy 2.4: Develop student reference materials and individual pathway/goal-setting materials

    5. Strategy 2.5: Maintain reference rooms organization at both campuses in collaboration with CTL team

    6. Strategy 2.6: Maintain classroom supplies and materials

    7. Strategy 2.7: Guide the selection of new materials and supervise pilots

    8. Strategy 2.8: Order packets from the copy center as needed

    9. Strategy 2.9: Create and maintain Career Pathways curriculum videos

    10. Strategy 2.10: Maintain, organize and regularly update Schoology shared resources

  3. Collaboration and Coordination of Career Pathways Programming

    1. Strategy 3.1: Consult with admin and LSS regarding current class needs

    2. Strategy 3.2: Consult with teachers and CTLs on current students’ needs including skill gaps 

    3. Strategy 3.3: Collaborate with Orientation Instructional Lead on prerequisites and orientation needs for new students

    4. Strategy 3.4: Collaborate with Program Manager and Pathways Coordinator on Career Pathways programming offerings and strategies within partnerships

    5. Strategy 3.5: Collaborate with Instructional Supervisor for focus of Career Pathways curriculum including aligning benchmarks to state and/or accreditation standards, developing assessments in Schoology and assessment plans

  4. Collaboration with Leadership Teams and Projects

    1. Strategy 4.1: Attend professional development events and serve on committees in order to stay current with trends and best practices in the field (MPS, MDE, etc).

    2. Strategy 4.2: Collaborate on the 5 year narrative

    3. Strategy 4.3: Collaborate on the district’s literacy plan to explain curriculum to both internal and external stakeholders

    4. Strategy 4.4: Attend monthly meeting with the CP team, administration team and/or quarterly meetings with coaches/TOSAs

    5. Strategy 4.5: Collaborate with admin and coaches on PD focus

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years Adult Education experience

  • Curriculum development experience preferred

  • Completion of ACES/TIF and CCRS training

  • Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience teaching Career Pathways classes highly preferred

  • Ability to effectively address issues related to learner persistence and overcoming barriers

  • Experience working with both HSE and ELL students

  • Expertise in working with students with learning disabilities (especially in reading)

  • Other preferred skills include:

    • Highly digitally literate/competent and confident troubleshooting tech platforms and computer issues 

    • Ability to create, learn, adapt, and improve systems

    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

    • Strong organizational skills

  • CURRENT MN TEACHING LICENSE REQUIRED
