Role Overview: Have a passion for Audio or Music? Bose Professional has an exciting opportunity to join our System Validation Engineering Team as a Principal Product Safety Engineer. The position is for an energetic, hands-on, engineering lead with a strong understanding of system and circuit design fundamentals with a key understanding of worldwide Safety and regulatory compliance requirements for professional audio products. The Senior Safety Engineer will be a contributor to the expansion of our product lines across multiple professional audio product worldwide markets as a member of the SVE team. The SVE team supports all facets of the product life cycle as a part of the Global Bose Professional Engineering team from advanced development and new product introductions, to continuing engineering and cost reduction work. This is a “hands-on” position that has a direct impact that will require the person to collaborate Globally within Bose Professional as well as with our Contract Manufacture (CM) engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities: - As the department’s Safety SME (Subject Matter Expert) you will work with the Electrical and Mechanical Design teams to continuously improve the products design and performance of our diverse products as it pertains to all relevant worldwide Safety standards. This will include working upfront with new product teams to review and improve designs such as being an active participant in schematic, layout and system design reviews.
- Generate all required testing plans per each product phase and continuing engineering effort based on engineering review of the design and relevant compliance standards. These testing plans would cover all product types from passive loudspeakers to powered systems and Li-ion battery packs.
- Provide strong technical support and consultation to our CMs and international certification agencies (CQC, UL, TUV, etc), to obtain details and properly analyze results that are consistent with electronic industry worldwide safety test standards for use in global certifications.
- Perform alternate construction reviews and submittals for all required worldwide agencies.
- Demonstrate a confirmed solid understanding of Energy Efficiency testing and proficiency with test equipment for powered systems and external power supplies.
- Lead the debug efforts for all Safety related items with the product designers’, trouble-shooting all Safety test failures and provide potential solutions.
- Define and standardize Bose Professional Product Safety testing methodologies for worldwide product approvals.
- Drive all continuous improvement activities related to Product Safety for Bose Pro Professional and CM partners.
Qualifications: - Product Safety design and test experience in a fast paced, engineer-focused environment
- Experience in performing IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62133, 61960, 62368, 1480, 1480A, EN54-24 tests are required.
- Experience in Energy Efficiency Standards IEC 62301, EN 50563/50564, NOM-029, CAN/CSA-C381
- Solid understanding of worldwide marking and certification requirements for Product Safety for commercial audio products.
- Understanding of critical component selection and how it relates to design and PCB layout for Product Safety.
- Hands-on Product Safety risk review and mitigation/de-bug experience
- Strong understanding of amplifier technology and switch mode power supplies is preferred
- Experience with passive loudspeaker product Safety is preferred
- Excellent communication skills among a global organization are required
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint applications
- Strong working knowledge of JIRA
- Working knowledge of PTC CodeBeamer is preferred
Education: - BSEE or MSEE with a minimum of 10 years’ related experience in compliance
Travel: - Occasional travel, domestic and international (less than 10%)
