Park Maintenance Assistant – Monterey DISTRICT / Asilomar Sector

Post & Bid: This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is the maintenance shop at 2211 Garden Road, Monterey, CA 93940. The position may be required to work at other locations throughout the District as assigned, based on operational need. This position will work under the supervision of Park Maintenance Chief.   

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Saturday to Wednesday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.  

The Park Maintenance Assistant will perform specific tasks required to accomplish the care and maintenance Monterey District locations, as operational needs require. The Park Maintenance Assistant position will be assigned to work weekends and holidays to meet operational needs such as the Community Service Worker Program, various volunteer work forces, and unforeseen occurrences. The Park Maintenance Assistant shall maintain a current California Driver License. Responsibilities include caring for Housekeeping, ground cover, shrubs, irrigation systems, maintaining tools and equipment.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions

Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping. works inside and outside in varying temperatures may have extensive exposure to dirt, dust fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. May work in remote locations as well as fast paced equipment. May require heavy physical work including lifting, pushing or pulling equipment and materials, weighing up to 40 pounds frequent walking on even an uneven terrain; works from elevated surfaces such as from ladders and scaffolding; may be required to work in confined spaces.
