Occupational Therapist
Under general supervision, provides direct occupational therapy (OT) to students
May evaluate students who may require therapy; consults with staff and parents on student’s therapy
Develops and implements training programs for staff and parents, and performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to designated administrator.
Provides direct OT to students who may have educational, physical, or mental limitations.
May participate in initial screening of students with suspected disabilities.
Assists in development of OT student assessment procedures and process.
Facilitates OT services with school resource team.
Assesses student’s educationally related OT needs by record review, interview, standardized/non-standard testing procedures.
Evaluates student’s performance and writes assessment reports according to specific guidelines.
Identifies student abilities and education, development, or functional needs and develops long-term and short-term goals and objectives and/or student outcomes. Reviews the OT assessments at IEP or other appropriate meetings.
Develops appropriate therapy intervention plans to meet stated goals and objectives or outcome for student which may include adaptation or modification of student’s environment, materials, or curriculum or that provides for classroom or home intervention strategies or that provides pull out services. Consults and trains resource team to implement activities that can be incorporated into the student’s day.
Documents findings, actions taken, recommendations regarding areas of responsibility as specified by federal, state, and school district regulations and procedures, maintains any additional required documentation.
Communicates with student, resource team, administrators, parents, outside agencies via oral, written, or electronic means to ensure timely delivery of services.
Complies with confidentially procedures regarding the release of information on students. Responsible for Staff Development and In-Service opportunities for staff, parents, and administrators.
Graduation from an accredited school of occupational therapy. Must hold current registration as an occupational therapist (OTR) with the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
