Position Overview:
The Gardner laboratory at UMBC is looking for a technician to work on an R01 funded study of bacterial polysaccharide degradation. The successful candidate will have a minimum of a MS degree in microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline. The ideal candidate will have experience working with non-model bacterial systems and/or modern molecular biology techniques (including proteomics).

Responsibilities:
This technician is expected to be a full-time 40-hour/week bench scientist, with duties that include planning and executing experiments, data generation and analysis, proper lab notebook upkeep, laboratory maintenance, presentation and manuscript preparation, and other duties related to academic microbiology research.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Prior experience in laboratory environment preferred. Consideration may be given for a unique combination of education and biology or chemistry experience such as: - Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research in a laboratory, as appropriate, or - Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with at least one (1) year of laboratory experience, as appropriate.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Additional Information:
This position is Grant Funded, wherein employment is contingent upon award renewal.
Please note that this is a full-time contractual staff position. The contract term will be for a one-year period, with the option to renew.
