City of Laguna Beach is looking for a committed and detail-oriented
Part-Time Jailer to be an essential part of our
Police Department . In this dynamic role, you'll work alongside our dedicated Jail Supervisor and sworn officers to ensure the safety and security of our community's jail facility. As a Jailer, you'll be responsible for monitoring inmates, maintaining order, and ensuring the facility operates smoothly.
Your daily responsibilities will include conducting thorough cell searches, inspecting for contraband, and keeping the facility in top condition. This is a meaningful, hands-on role where you can directly contribute to the well-being of Laguna Beach. Schedule: must be available to work a varied shift schedule that will include weekends, late nights, and holidays.

Qualifications Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age by the time of appointment. Related college level coursework, and formal training and/or certification in the field of jail operations is highly desirable.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a related capacity in a law enforcement agency, including strong public contact work is require.
License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of field duties, which requires the operation of a City vehicle, a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required. Completion of a jailer training academy or a similar training is highly desirable.
If not already completed, incumbents will be required to successfully complete the Jailer Training Academy, or training of a similar nature. Completion will be required by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.

September 20, 2024 . Applications will be screened carefully, and selected applicants will be invited to undergo a Structured Panel Interview to evaluate their knowledge, skills and abilities. The appointing hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of applicants deemed eligible before making selection decisions. The selection process may be modified based on the needs of the City.
Pre-employment Process :Selected candidates must successfully complete a background security investigation, polygraph examination, psychological exam, and pre-employment physical examination including a drug test.
