Position: Firefighter/EMT-Paramedic
Position Number: 4.127

The Temple Terrace Fire Department is currently seeking candidates for the roles of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the hiring process, candidates must successfully complete the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) and the FireTEAM assessments. After passing these assessments, you must add your name and information to the Temple Terrace Fire Department on the National Testing Network (NTN) site.

Selections will be made directly from the NTN eligibility list. Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be contacted by the Temple Terrace Fire Department after the closing date of October 13, 2024.

Salary Information
Annual Salary Range: $60,674.39 - $90,933.75
Includes a $7,500 paramedic incentive.
Additional incentive pay of up to $4,600 annually.
Benefit Information
Work Schedule: 48-hour work week with 3-week Kelly Days.
Pension Plan: Defined Benefit Pension with a 3.5% multiplier. Normal retirement after 20 years of service or 10 years of service at age 54. Includes an 8-year DROP with a guaranteed 3% COLA. Military and past fire service pension buy-back (up to 4 years) available.
Insurance: Health, dental, and vision insurance, with optional group term life insurance.
Additional Benefits: Disability benefits, ancillary benefits, deferred compensation (457), paid vacation and sick time, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Department Overview
Established in 1925, the Temple Terrace Fire Department provides advanced and basic life support (ALS/BLS) transport services. With two fire stations, the department responds to approximately 4,500 calls annually and employs 57 career administrative and operational personnel across three shifts. The department has been internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) since 2006 and holds an ISO 1 rating.

Temple Terrace is a city with a population of approximately 27,000, located in northeast Hillsborough County. Spanning 7.5 square miles, it serves both residents and visitors and provides mutual aid assistance to the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County. The community is centered around the historic Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club, established in 1925.

Minimum Age: 18 years
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required
Education: High school diploma or GED required
Driver's License: Valid Florida driver's license required
Language: Must be able to read and speak English
Vision: Must meet standards as specified in NFPA 1582
Preferred Education: College degree
Certification Requirements:
State of Florida Firefighter I/II Certification
Current State of Florida Paramedic and/or EMT Certification
Must obtain a State of Florida Paramedic license within two years of employment
Additional Requirements: Must be tobacco-free for one year before appointment and throughout employment (affidavit required).
Disqualifiers/Background Checks
Criminal History: A background investigation will be conducted prior to hire.
Driving History: Verification of a valid driver's license will be conducted.
Drug Use: Pre-employment drug screening required. The City of Temple Terrace is a drug-free workplace.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Firefighting and rescue methods, first aid, CPR, ACLS techniques, emergency medical practices, and firefighting terminology. Familiarity with firefighting equipment, search and rescue techniques, and the city's layout.
Skills: Clear communication, both oral and written, and the use of hand signals.
Physical Abilities: Must be able to operate various firefighting and rescue equipment, perform physically demanding tasks under hazardous conditions, and lift and carry heavy equipment.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under stress, interact effectively with diverse individuals, and collaborate as part of a team.
