Position: Firefighter/EMT-Paramedic
Classification: Firefighter/EMT-Paramedic - Position No: 4.127
The Temple Terrace Fire Department is currently recruiting for the positions of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must successfully complete both the CPAT and FIRETEAM assessments. Once these assessments are passed, candidates must ensure their information is added to the Temple Terrace Fire Department on the National Testing Network (NTN) site.
All candidates will be selected directly from the NTN eligibility list. If you are chosen to participate in the hiring process, the Temple Terrace Fire Department will contact you after the closing date of October 13, 2024. No applications should be submitted to the agency at this time.
Salary Information:
Base Salary: $60,674.39 - $90,933.75
Incentives:
$7,500 Paramedic incentive included
Additional incentive pay up to $4,600 annually
Benefits Information:
Work Schedule: 3-week Kelly Days, 48-hour work week
Pension: Defined Benefit Pension with a 3.5% multiplier, normal retirement after 20 years of service or 10 years and age 54, 8-year DROP, and guaranteed 3% COLA
Pension Buy-back: Military and past fire service pension buy-back (up to 4 years)
Insurance: Health, dental, and vision insurance

Department Overview:
Established in 1925, the Temple Terrace Fire Department provides full ALS and BLS transport services. The department operates from two fire stations and responds to approximately 4,500 calls annually. The department is comprised of 57 career administrative and operational personnel divided among three shifts. The Temple Terrace Fire Department has been internationally accredited by the CFAI since 2006 and holds an ISO 1 rating.
City Information:
The Temple Terrace Fire Department serves the City of Temple Terrace, which has a population of 27,000 residents. It also provides mutual aid assistance to the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County. Temple Terrace covers 7.5 square miles in northeast Hillsborough County and is known for its planned golf course community, which is centered around the historic Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club, founded in 1925.
Job Requirements:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
Education: Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
Driver's License: Must have a valid Florida driver's license
Language: Must be able to read and speak English
Vision: Must meet the requirements set by NFPA 1582
Certifications:
Must possess a current State of Florida Firefighter I/II Certification
Must hold a current State of Florida Paramedic and/or EMT Certification
Must obtain a Florida Paramedic License within 2 years of employment
Additional Requirement: Must be tobacco-free for one year preceding appointment and throughout employment with the fire department (affidavit required)
Disqualifiers:
Criminal History: A criminal background investigation will be conducted prior to hire
Driving Record: Driver's license verification will be conducted prior to hire
Drug Use: The City of Temple Terrace is a drug-free workplace, and a pre-employment drug screen will be conducted before hire
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Firefighting and Rescue: Working knowledge of firefighting and rescue methods, first aid, CPR, ACLS techniques, and emergency medical practices
Tools and Equipment: Familiarity with firefighting and rescue tools, their uses, and the city's street system and layout
Communication: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and by hand signals
Physical Requirements: Ability to function efficiently under stressful conditions, lift and maneuver heavy equipment, and perform tasks requiring significant physical exertion under hazardous conditions
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work cooperatively with others and interact effectively with diverse groups in various situations
