Director of Academic & Faculty Affairs, Master of Science in Foreign Service Program - Walsh School of Foreign Service

Requirements

The Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) , founded in 1919, is a premier school of international affairs. SFS provides a rigorous education grounded in both theory and practice while instilling the Jesuit value of service. Father Edmund A. Walsh, S.J.'s vision was a school that would prepare students for all major forms of foreign representation - official and unofficial, governmental and private sector, whether commercial, financial, consular or diplomatic.

The Director of Academic and Faculty Affairs is the primary academic counselor for the Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) Program. The incumbent guides current students through the degree program with individual academic counseling, and ensures ongoing academic support and co-curricular programming for students. The Director of Academic and Faculty Affairs also manages the administrative aspects of the degree program, including course scheduling, registration, and administration of exams, and works closely with the MSFS Director and Associate Director in the development of curriculum and degree requirements. Reporting to the MSFS Associate Director and working with faculty, students, and other members of the MSFS team, additional duties include but are not limited to:

Academic Counseling

  • Serve as the primary academic counselor to 200+ MSFS students - including dual-degree students in Public Policy, Law, Business, History, Economics, and BSFS regarding degree requirements, academic policies/procedures, curriculum structure, registration, financial aid, and students' individual course plans.
  • Guide students in formulation of various grant, fellowship, and scholarship applications.
  • Provide ongoing academic support to students until graduation and coordinate additional support services as necessary.
  • Coordinate with the SFS Career Center on career services for program students.




Academic Program Administration

  • Manage course scheduling in coordination with the Director and Associate Director and ensure necessary offerings and balance of courses each semester, providing students and faculty with course schedules/descriptions and ensuring up-to-date course information in various media.
  • Coordinate and manage the registration process for students and faculty and the verbal examination process for 100 students per year., communicating with dual-degree academic programs.
  • Develop and manage new student orientation program and co-curricular programming including clinics, simulations, leadership development programs, and mentoring programs.
  • Seek student feedback relating to the MSFS program, curriculum, and professional development offerings through exit interviews, surveys, and group meetings, using feedback for program implementation and improvement.
  • Collaborate with OGS on compliance with visa regulations for international students and ensure program compliance in this area.
  • Foster relationships and information sharing between SFS/GU academic departments and centers, maintaining student and alumni databases.




Student Leadership Advising, Course Scheduling, and Faculty Support

  • Advise MSFS students in planning of academic, student-run conferences and other initiatives.
  • Supervise and advise multiple MSFS student organizations and clubs.
  • Develop guidelines and enforce policies as necessary, managing MSFS course scheduling.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for MSFS adjunct faculty.




Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Background in academic advising and/or academic program administration in higher education
  • Familiarity with international education systems
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills

Pay Range:


The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13


Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
