Job Description

RPS Oncology LLC is seeking a full time Chief Therapy Medical Physicist based in Bismarck, ND to join our growing team. This is a very rewarding long term position.

A successful candidate will lead the physics team and be an integral member of the RPS Oncology team; working closely with two other physicists, two dosimetrists and three radiation oncologist to provide flexible onsite support in Bismarck ND. Clinic Information:
  • This position is based in Bismark, ND at  Bismarck Cancer Center
  • This clinic is equipped with 3 Beam matched Elekta Versa HD linacs and an HDR
  • This facility uses Mosaiq/Monaco Treatment planning systems.
  • Special procedures include  SRS,   SBRT & HDR
  • This clinic has an incredibly welcoming team – Majority tenured employees
  • This role will be fully supported by the RPS team in for PTO coverage and increased patient loads
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other technical staff.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to the physics team.
  • Ensure that staff are properly trained and are following best practices and safety guidelines.
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive quality assurance programs for radiation therapy equipment (e.g., linear accelerators, imaging systems, and treatment planning systems).
  • Perform regular QA checks on equipment and ensure proper calibration of treatment machines.
  • Ensure that patient treatment plans meet all safety and accuracy standards.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists and dosimetrists to design accurate and effective radiation treatment plans.
  • Review and approve complex treatment plans, such as those involving intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and brachytherapy.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., NRC, FDA, state regulations) and accreditation standards (e.g., ACR, AAPM).
  • Oversee radiation safety protocols and programs to protect patients, staff, and the public from excessive radiation exposure.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audits and inspections from regulatory agencies.
Required Skills:
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists, ensuring they perform at a high level.
  • Strong mentorship skills to guide junior physicists and technical staff, along with the ability to provide technical training.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address and resolve equipment issues or discrepancies in treatment planning and delivery.
  • Experience in evaluating, acquiring, and integrating new technologies or treatment methods into clinical practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable in state and professional regulations
  • Willingness to go “above and beyond” for clients and fellow colleagues
  • A desire to demonstrate initiative and ownership of daily tasks and projects

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • ABR Certified Medical Physicist
  • MS or PhD in Medical Physics
  • Valid State Registration/Approval
  • Valid Driver’s License
