Building Code Compliance Inspector – Hallandale Beach

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Building Code Compliance Inspector to join our team of professionals. This position offers fantastic opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responds to public inquiries regarding code cases related to permits and/or licenses, building safety inspections, explains Hallandale Municipal Code requirements and procedures.
  • Ascertains and gathers facts related to applicable ordinances, codes, laws, rules, and regulations and determines and institutes proper action to be taken.
  • Responds to and investigates complaints regarding violations of City ordinances; issues notices of violations; stipulates necessary changes for ordinance compliance; takes appropriate action to ensure and support voluntary compliance.
  • Utilizes Hallandale Beach records verifying compliance of permitting, and required building safety inspection certifications.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations on code enforcement matters and gains voluntary compliance.
  • Coordinates actions with other departments, jurisdictions or regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares case information, researches legal property owner meeting Florida Statute 162, Notice requirements, conducts code case management, collects evidence, articulates written documentation of all violation findings and presents evidence at Code Board or Special Magistrate Hearings and other legal proceedings.
  • Explains, interprets, and makes presentations to community groups community organizations, and businesses.
  • Maintains records of applications, inspections, investigations, violations, hearings, and related data.
  • Performs field assessments and inspections related to the above functions.
  • Will be required to perform other related duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of the job.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to recognize deviations from code requirements and from established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet the public and explain zoning and land use codes concisely, tactfully, and impartially.
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans and specifications relating to land use, landscaping, and zoning code provisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal tactfully but firmly with customers.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to use personal computers.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and follow up with customer.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; supplemented by course work in code enforcement;
  • Two (2)( years' experience in code and zoning enforcement work applicable to area of assignment;
  • Or Two (2) years' experience in a related field such as real estate, housing inspector, title research, law enforcement, supervisory or code or building related administrative capacity; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.

MINIMUM TRAINING/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Must posess a Florida Association of Code Enforcement Fundamentals of Code Certification or the ability to be obtain a Florida Association of Code Enforcement, Fundamentals of Code within a year of hire date (or when classes become available).
  • Must obtain the International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification within 90 days of hire date.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE TRAINING AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a General Contractors License or Building Inspector License
  • Must have a Florida Association of Code Enforcement, Fundamentals of Code Certification (formerly known as Level 1) or above or the ability to be obtain a Florida Association of Code Enforcement, Fundamentals of Code within a year of hire date (or when classes become available).
