DESCRIPTION

The Psychology Department at Montclair State University invites applications for one-year, 10-month, full-time, temporary, Assistant Professor for the AY2024-2025 academic year. The teaching load for this appointment is 24 credits, primarily in the undergraduate and graduate statistics and research methods areas but courses in the specialty area are also possible.

QUALIFICATIONS


Applicants must have a doctoral degree in fields related to behavioral science. We prefer candidates with proven experience in teaching psychology related quantitative courses such as statistics, experimental psychology, test and measurement and introduction to research methods.

THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES AND THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is Montclair State's largest college with over 5,000 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. CHSS facilitates traditional and interdisciplinary learning, and is the professional home of many outstanding scholars and instructors across numerous disciplines, all of whom lend to CHSS's mission to furnish academically rigorous and relevant programs of study that contribute to the development of an informed and engaged civil society. CHSS's programs develop in students the abilities to discover, create, evaluate, apply, and share knowledge, so that they will be able to think critically, act ethically, and be informed citizen-participants prepared to assume leadership roles in their communities. CHSS also aims to be responsive to the needs of society, including via its championing of use-inspired research collaboratively undertaken by faculty and students, and graduate programs that train students to apply knowledge in constructive, inspiring, and practical ways that benefit our local and broader communities.

The Psychology Department—organized into the three broad categories of clinical, industrial/organizational (I/O), and psychological science—serves a large and diverse constituency of students and is comprised of a vibrant group of 30 full-time faculty, in addition to several teaching faculty, emeriti faculty, and support staff. The Department continues to expand, with 20 active research labs, over 3.5 million dollars in extramural funding, and PhD programs in both clinical and I/O psychology—in addition to popular MA and certification programs in clinical psychology, school psychology, I/O psychology, and psychological science. The research interests of our faculty include neuroscience, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurocognitive aging; cognitive processes such as memory, the brain reward system, decision-making, perceptual processing, and spatial cognition; internalizing psychological disorders and trauma; forensic investigation, plea bargaining, and forensic and correctional assessment and treatment; language and life span development; motivation; pedagogy; effective leadership, mentorship, supervision, organizational behavior, and employee well-being, aging, and longevity; emotions and ethics in the workplace; and social attitudes, discrimination, diversity science, and social justice.
